The piece that holds the rest of the kit

A presentation folder is not the pitch. It is the thing that keeps the pitch together until someone opens it at a desk. Sales teams use it for leave-behinds, practices for a welcome packet, schools for enrollment papers, and agencies so a proposal does not arrive as a loose stack. The cover still has to read after the contents are pulled out.

What goes inside changes the folder you should order. A single pocket of sell sheets is a different build from a packet that also has to carry a business card, a brochure, and a reply slip. If the insert itself needs printing, spec that too — a brochure or a set of business cards can be part of the same conversation, but they are separate pieces with their own files.

Pockets, slits, and the cover

You choose the construction. Tell us how the folder should hold paper: one pocket, two pockets, a business-card slit, a document slit, or a combination. Capacity matters. A thin packet and a thick proposal do not want the same pocket. If you need a glued pocket, an expanded pocket, or a slit cut into the cover, write that in the quote. We confirm the construction before a proof, because a folder that cannot hold the insert is a failed job no matter how clean the printing is.

The cover is its own set of choices. Set the finished size. A folder that holds a letter-size sheet is the size people describe most often, and you can ask for another. Pick the cover stock and a finish: matte, gloss, or soft-touch. If the cover and a printed insert should share a finish, say that. If you want a spot varnish or a metallic accent on the cover only, name it so we can confirm it is part of this job.

Longer runs of an identical folder are the kind of work people bring to offset printing when color has to stay consistent from the first carton to the last. You still do not have to name a press. Describe the quantity and the construction, and the quote will say how we will run it.

How a folder job runs without a visit

Send a quote request with the quantity, size, pocket and slit plan, cover stock and finish, whether we are printing inserts, and the state or ZIP for delivery. We reply with pricing and a proof built from the dieline, not from a flat sketch. You approve that proof. Then we print and ship anywhere in the United States.

Packing is part of the spec. Folders can ship flat or already formed. Pick one on the quote so the cartons match how your team will use them.

A folder file is not a flyer file

The art has to follow a dieline: the panels, the pockets, the glue areas, and any slit. A PDF of a pretty cover, with no indication of where the fold and the pocket sit, cannot be proofed honestly. If you have a dieline from a previous printer, send it. If you do not, ask for one before you design the panels.

Graphic design and prepress can build that dieline and place the art so type stays out of the glue and the slit. Bring the logo, the cover wording, and a note about what the pocket must hold. The proof you approve should show the folder as it will be cut and glued, not only the front panel.

Frequently asked questions

Can you print the inserts as well as the folder?
Tell us what goes inside. If the insert should be printed with the folder, include its specs. If you will supply the inserts, say that so the quote covers only the folder.
What pocket style should I ask for?
Describe how the folder should hold the contents. One pocket or two, a business-card slit, a document slit, or a mix are all requests. We confirm the construction on the quote. We do not assume a default pocket.
What file do you need for a folder?
A dieline, or a note that you need one built. A flat flyer PDF will not show where the pockets and folds land.
Do folders ship flat or already formed?
Tell us which you want. We confirm packing on the quote so the cartons arrive in the form you asked for.
